💡 ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Natasha R. Minier-Robinson wrote two books following a miscarriage, the unexpected death of her younger sister, and a chronic illness that kept her hospitalized for most of a month. She's a US Navy veteran, a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and a poet, and she calls the season she's been living in the waiting room.
Her first book came out about ten years ago, written while the pain was still pouring straight onto the page. The two books in the My Heart Is Home series come from a different place. She names the weight now without letting it become who she is. We talk about what changed in between, why she stopped keeping faith in a Sunday box, and what a church mother told her in the ER while she was focused only on getting physically well.
Natasha also works both sides of the hospital bed. She talks about treating patients as whole people instead of symptoms, what it meant when a nurse prayed with her while she was the one in the bed, and how a provider holds respect for a patient whose beliefs don't match their own. When I asked what she tells someone who's still waiting on an answer, she didn't reach for a verse. She said sometimes you won't have the words, and it's okay to sit in the silence.
